The society constitution requires us to rotate key post-holders every three years so we are having a bit of a re-shuffle with Marie Macpherson and Vivian Hastie stepping down as Convenor and Treasurer and being replaced by Tim Holden and Sharon Boyd.
We’d like to offer our sincere gratitude to both. As convenor, Marie has worked tirelessly to increase our membership and raise our profile in the county, all this while continuing to expand her First Blast of the Trumpet series (available at all major book stores and now Audible Books also – plug plug). Following from her previous role as convenor Vivian has kept us all on the straight and narrow as treasurer and the society’s accounts are as strong as they have ever been. Both remain on the HHS committee and have generously volunteered to support the incoming post-holders.
Tim will take over from Marie and hopes that his experience in his previous life as director of a commercial archaeological company will help in the handover. Sharon’s skills as Senior Lecturer at Royal (Deck) School of Veterinary Studies, with a background in zoology and environmental science, will be invaluable in keeping order in our ranks.
And finally, you will all know Eric Glendinning, a founder member of the Society who, after 34 years in the society, has retired from the committee. Eric deserves a huge thank you for his work over the years and you’ll be pleased to know he isn’t going far. He is still very active in research and promotion of local history and has been invited to become an Honorary Member of the Society in recognition of the major contribution he has made.
