Haddington Welcomes the Dorothy Dunnet Society

The History Society and St Mary’s recently collaborated to create a memorable and enjoyable event for 50 delegates from the Dorothy Dunnet Society on 28th April 2024.

Dr Jon Cooper presented Haddington’s Siege of 1548/49 and its context within the Dorothy Dunnett historic novels. After some very in-depth questions and fascinating discussion, three groups then toured the outside of the Church looking for Siege clues and then walked the route of the Camisade Battle to Holy Trinity Church.

The delegates were given a warm welcome by St Mary’s volunteers. They enjoyed tea, coffee and biscuits and purchased some items and books from St Mary’s Craft Stall.

The Church was closed for their visit and delegates were genuinely interested in the history of the church. The weather and light on the day meant that the stain glass was astounding.

Feedback on the day and after the event was extremely positive and we hope to collaborate again in the future with St Mary’s and the Dorothy Dunnet Society.

It was a fun day for the volunteers and the delegates.
