Twenty three members enjoyed an interesting outing to Thirlestane Castle in Lauder on Tuesday 28th June 2022. Two guides escorted members round the restored rooms explaining their history. Many of the original furnishings had been removed by a previous occupant but the plasterwork, wallpaper, fireplaces, paintings, period furniture and memorabilia show the Castle’s former opulence. The plasterwork in particular is extremely intricate and impressive.
The present owner’s family live in part of the castle and the whole place is used by paying guest during the shooting season.
